Meetings
Last Meeting : Wednesday, June 4, 7:00 pm.
Nice turn out tonight and we learned a lot and shared a lot as usual.
Delaware's leading activist on energy, Tommywonk, aka Tom Noyes, dropped by to report that progress is being made on the struggle to bring off-shore windpower to Delaware. It's slow and tedious but it seems to be moving in the right direction. He also reported that legislation will be introduced this week to rein in the SEU and make it accountable to the Governor. This is a huge step in the right direction since heretofore it has been accountable to no one except its own board members. Finally, Tom talked about trade and cap programs and how Delaware can participate in this.
ACTION: Call your Senator, even if he/she supports Blue Water Wind. Call this week and again next week if the Senate doesn't vote this week. Keep calling until HCR38 gets on the Senate floor for a vote.HCR38 is the bill that has passed in the House that directs the State Controller to vote for the Power Purchase Agreement between Blue Water and Delmarva Power. The Senate needs to pass this bill before the end of Session on June 30th. KEEP CALLING!
KUDOS to John Kowalko who has once again taken on the role of the Lone Ranger in the House. He has led the charge on energy in Delaware and he's not getting much backup from his caucus. John, we're behind you and we're so very proud of you!
We announced PDD's 2008 fundraising project tonight and worked on the mailing. PDD has been given a $5000 Challenge Grant Pledge for the 2008 election year. If the members contribute and raise $5000, our angels will match it. Your money is doubled. Details about this program are being mailed to you.*
Our endorsement committee has finalized our 2008 Candidate Questionnaire and it will be mailed later this week. The committee members have put in a lot of time getting the questions right and identifying the issues that PDD cares about. Thanks to June Eisley who chairs the group, and to Paul Baumbach, Gemma Buckley, Dave Carter, Kris Muto and Brian Selander for all their hard work.
You are invited to Rebecca's for our Annual 4th of July Barbeque and Pool Party on Friday, July 4th from 5:00 to 9:00. Again, details are being mailed. RSVP to Rebecca at young.rh@comcast.net
You are invited to Chris Coons' announcement ceremony on Saturday, June 7th at the following locations: Middletown at the Senior Center on Broad St at 10:00am; Wilmington at Conley-Ward Restaurant on the Riverfront at 12:30pm; Claymont at the Community Center on Green Street at 2:00pm. You are invited to Matt Denn's announcement ceremony on Saturday, June 7th at 4:00pm at the Old New Castle Courthouse on Delaware Avenue at 2nd St. We'll adjourn to the Arsenal for a drinkie-poo afterward.
